Seraphina Lightwood. I couldn’t get her out of my mind. From the first taste of her blood, she’d taken a foothold in my brain and refused to let go.
As I leaned against the rough bark of the oak tree, I glanced up at the moon, crisp and bright. It had started before the taste of blood, though. The bite had just intensified my growing obsession, as it normally does with vampires.
I closed my eyes as I recalled the initial brush of her cheek. But nothing compared to the feel of her lips on mine or the taste of that sweet angelic blood.
My nostrils flared as I sniffed the evening air. Sera had been gone for a while. I wondered if my bite had killed her. Laced with poison, I’d bitten her harder than I’d expected.
But her delicate system must have withstood it. I opened my eyes and grinned into the night sky. I liked strong women.
The scent of Sera grew stronger. I slipped around the other side of the tree, peering at the pathway nearby.
Voices floated to me as did the stronger scent of the delicious angel I’d set my sights on. I licked my lips in anticipation of seeing her.
She stepped into the glow of the streetlamp lining the path, sending my heart fluttering. It quickly twisted into a knot as I spotted another figure with her.
Chris Wright. The human doctor who had pursued her and won.
My fingers curled into fists as I stared at him. He grinned at her before he slid his arm around her shoulders and pressed his lips to her forehead.
How had she fallen in love with a man like him?
