I hadn’t expected to marry a warlock.
Then again, I hadn’t expected to inherit a castle or the ability to time travel either. But that’s exactly what happened. I went from a mild-mannered professor to a Countess, then to a Duchess. But that’s still not the craziest thing. Not by a long shot.
Apparently, I’m also clairvoyant. Truth be told, it’s a bit unreliable–especially when it really matters. But every now and then, it offers just enough help to keep me one step ahead.
This wasn’t one of those times.
Despite my recent trip to the future, which resulted in some…eye-opening truths, I still never saw what was coming.
I bundled up tighter in my cardigan as I headed back toward Dunhaven Castle, my trusty furry friends in tow.
As I rounded the corner, I ran into Jack, busily trimming the rose bushes in anticipation of an upcoming event on the estate.
“Good morning,” I said with a smile and a wave, the diamond on my finger catching the sunlight.
“Careful, you’ll blind someone with that thing,” he replied with a hearty chuckle.
“Sorry,” I said as Riley and Bailey raced toward him to greet him. “I’ll tell Marcus to tone it back next time.”
“Next time?” Jack asked, his Scottish accent slipping through. “Already planning your next ring?”
“No. I’m very happy with this one. But Marcus has his own ideas.”
