“What do you think about King Solomon’s diamond mines?” Maggie asked as she flipped through a book. She settled on a page, letting her elbows rest on the glass countertop of Maggie’s Books and Baubles Boutique.

“I don’t,” Henry answered from the armchair across the shop, staring down at a magazine in his lap.

Maggie flicked her gaze into space, her finger tapping her lips before she turned to the next entry and puckered her lips at it. “Where do you think they are? Where would we look?”

“I don’t know,” Henry murmured, flipping the page and eyeing the latest rifles available.

Maggie straightened, placing her hands on the counter and narrowing her eyes at Henry. “Are you even listening?”

He kept his gaze fixed on the glossy paper in front of him. “Of course I am, Princess.”

“Then why aren’t you more interested?”

Henry flicked the magazine closed and dumped it on the table next to his armchair. The leather creaked as he pushed himself to stand and shuffled across the shop toward her.

“I’m listening to every word you say. But I’m not sure what you’re getting at.”

Maggie flicked the open book toward him, tapping the page. “I’m searching for King Solomon’s diamond mines.” Maggie flicked her gaze back to the printed words. “Do you think Agent Thomas would approve us to go looking for it?”

“Why are you so adamant about this?”

Maggie lifted her shoulders as she let the book thud against the glass. “I’m just…looking for some adventure. It’s been three months since we went to Scotland. I feel like nothing’s happened since then. I’m part of a special government asset retrieval team, and we’re retrieving nothing.”
