“Host a seance? Have you gone mad?” I arched an eyebrow as I stared across the offices of The Fletcher Detective Agency at my brother-in-law.
Edwin offered me the characteristic pout that he used whenever he made a suggestion, and someone didn’t appreciate it. “No.”
I held back an eye roll as his response failed to hide his obvious disappointment. “I haven’t any experience in that, and Robert would never allow it.”
“Says she who communes with the dead on a regular basis.”
“While my conversations with the dead may occur often, that does not mean I know anything about hosting a seance. And after the last disastrous one held within the walls of Blackmoore Castle, I doubt Robert will welcome another.”
Edwin sighed before he leapt from his seat and stalked around our small office. “Yes, I remember it. But that was held by a charlatan. You are not one.”
“I may as well be. I haven’t any knowledge of how to call to the spirits of the dead in that manner. For me, they simply show up.”
“Good. Then it should be easy for you. We’ll all sit in a circle and touch hands and all of that.” He waved a hand in the air as he stalked from one side of the room to the other. “And hopefully she’ll show up.”
“I do not believe it will be that easy, Edwin.”
He leaned over the desk and gripped the edge, his knuckles turning white. “Well, we must do something.”
